Knapp's Relational Model

This week's post is about Mark Knapp's Relational Model and how our relationships go through many stages. Some may grow with time, and some may decline.  Link to picture.  A relationship in my life that has grown with time would be with my boyfriend. It's almost been one year since we started dating. We met over social media on a dating app and we both started in the "initiation" phase. He wanted to go on a date, so we met up and went out to dinner. Every week we would do something new, and we both were interested in this then moved to the "experimentation" phase. This is where we asked more questions about each other's lives and where I really wanted to get to know who he was. I of course asked him the silly basic questions like, "What's your favorite food" "Where would be your favorite vacation." Etc... We each had our own values, life stories, and family ideals. Which then leads us to the "Intensifying" stage in o...

Positive and Negative effects of social media

This week's blog post is, about the effects of social media and whether it is good or bad. First of all, it is important to recognize that there are many different social networking sites such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and Snapchat. They all offer their own benefits and drawbacks. For example, Instagram can be really helpful for purposes such as photography, spreading your faith, posting your political views, seeing what your friends are up to, expressing who you are, etc. However, some drawbacks would be feeling insecure because of others' posts. This mostly happens because the majority of Instagram users only post the good/perfect parts of their lives. However, Snap chat on the other hand is considered more of a communication platform rather than Facebook or Instagram where you just see everyone's posts. Snapchat is more of a messenger app to connect with people more easily. There are quite a few drawbacks when it comes to this app though. One of them being the ag...

About Me!

Hello class! My name is Kate Laurent, and I am from a small town in Washington called Ellensburg. Many people call it the drive-through spot because it is on the way to Seattle, Yakima, and Spokane. I personally love living in a small town and that is mostly why I chose Corvallis for school because it felt like home! I am getting an education degree! My mom is a first-grade teacher so growing up I spent a lot of time in the classroom helping her. I have always really enjoyed spending time with the kids and helping my mom around the classroom! So naturally I am interested in becoming a first grade or second grade teacher.  I have many hobbies including, hiking, biking, painting, swimming, etc. But my most frequent hobby is running. I have been running since middle school and I now run here at Oregon State University!  An interesting fact about myself is that I have a twin brother!
